Welcome to the
32nd season of the Salt Lake Symphony. This promises to be the most exciting
year yet of the Salt Lake Symphony, one where the orchestra truly comes of
age as one of the leading community orchestras in the western United States
There’s something for
everyone this season, from classics, to pops and family fare. Masterworks by
Dvorak, Rachmaninov, Mahler and Beethoven highlight the classics concerts.
Soloists are also first-rate, and include Stephen Beus, winner of the 2006
Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition; duo pianists Ning and Jie Lu;
flautists Sergio Palotelli and Susan Goodfellow; and the SLS’s own principal
winds performing Mozart.
We are also pleased to
continue our association with the Salt Lake Choral Artists under the
direction of Brady Allred for a performance of Bach’s Magnificat in
December. I invite you to check out the season and join us for performances
in Libby Gardner Concert Hall.
See you there!
Another night at the movies! Last year's pops concert
was such a hit, the Salt Lake Symphony presents its
"Music & Movies Pops II, The Sequel". Music from
classic favorites such as "Ben Hur", "The Wizard of
OZ" and "Bridge Over the River Kwai" are on the
program.
"Classical" music used as movie themes and background
are represented with the music of Wagner, Beethoven
and Barber for "Excalibur", "Immortal Beloved" and
"Platoon".

No movie programming is complete without a sampling of
James Horner and John Williams: "Apollo 13", "Raiders
March" and the nearly immortal "Empire Strikes Back"
round out the program. You can almost smell the
popcorn!
